Dreams

Dreams are not only for when you sleep.

Dreams are hopes and wants and vision for your future.

My dream was never to be a leader or an advocate. When I was younger, my plan for my life was to survive another day.

But I'm grateful for those who guided my life when I was younger. Did I listen all the time to their advice? Heck no! News flash, I'm 54 now and I still make some interesting choices, thanks to dignity of risk.

Anyways, all it takes is one person to listen, to help you realize your dreams or your vision for your life. Thank you to all those who have listened and those who continue to listen. It means more than you can imagine.

For me, I have many dreams even at my age. One of the most important dreams to me is to share out the knowledge that people in the past have given to me. That is happening by mentorship. Next on my list of dreams is healthcare equity for those with disabilities.

Next is a big one, to make sure the systems that serve people do a better job for all they serve.

As I conclude this writing, I have to say thank you to all the leaders who came before me, especially Judy Heumann and Martin Luther King, Jr. Thank you for sharing  your dreams with all of us. Your struggles and your visions have definitely guided my life.

All it takes is one person to listen, so keep speaking up. That’s how a movement starts. Remember, it starts with you.
