BJ Stasio is a passionate and dedicated advocate for the rights and inclusion of individuals with disabilities. Based in Buffalo, New York, BJ has been actively involved in advocacy and leadership for over 20 years. He served as the President of the Board of Directors for the Self-Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS), elected by his peers to represent self-advocates across the state. His work with SANYS includes amplifying the voices of self-advocates and promoting person-centered initiatives.
BJ has been employed by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), where he has focused on person-centered planning, voting rights, and self-determination training and education. He is deeply committed to empowering individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling and self-directed lives.
In recognition of his impactful work, BJ has been honored with the Susan Daniels Disability Mentoring Hall of Fame induction and the Community Advocacy Award from the New York Alliance for Inclusion and Innovation. His advocacy efforts extend to creating the "Art of Advocacy," a platform that emphasizes the importance of self-advocacy as a tool for empowerment.
